Whether you still have loose ends from last year to sort out or, you are undecided about how to apply yourself this coming year, a new year brings in new energy. This is an opportunity to shift mindsets, gather up new momentum and reboot our systems from feeling stuck, to feeling inspired.
Some people cruise into each new year and experience the same patterns as the previous year. Some may feel exhausted, disillusioned, lacking direction or even hope, while others seem to fall on their feet and have control over their lives.
So, what is the difference between these groups of people?

Small Steps…
If you are prone to overwhelm, due to stress or fatigue, taking small steps is a powerful way to create mind memory that leads on to muscle memory. Once this process is in place, it creates a habit that feels natural to your mind, nervous system, and energy levels. It is also a wonderful way to achieve shifts in your life that create long term changes. As you prefer low risk situations or desire to feel empowered in most situations, planning and working towards long term goals are important to you.
Set yourself some realistic goals (big and small), and place some of your dreams and hopes in there as well. When you work through the year, and tick some (or all) off your list, you’ll feel inspired and fulfilled. Once you have applied this method and feel comfortable with it, you may feel open to extending your comfort zone by welcoming or seizing some unpredictable adventures or opportunities for an extra bit of excitement!
Give me adrenaline!
You may however prefer the excitement of endorphins flooding your system due to facing the unexpected, risk taking and maybe the unknown. This process doesn’t work for everyone however if you fall into this category and need to feel excitement over boredom, your goal sheet needs to have more opportunities that generate that endorphin rush. Exercise, sudden catch ups with friends, trying out new hobbies or absorbing new knowledge can all be helpful.
You may love that instant feel-good factor that endorphins bring however it is also important that you balance it out with long term goals as well. They can equally create that adrenaline sensation you desire especially if those long-term goals involve planning to travel, be in a relationship or grow a family, aspire to growing your career or learn something new. This can replace unpredictable risk with planned risk, enabling you to maintain a sense of balanced wellbeing for yourself and your family and friends. With balance comes fulfilment (and energy to enjoy life).
Remember, the most important aspect of all goal setting is to set goals that matter.

People
Seek out people you admire, that will support your goals or your dreams and that can give you healthy guidance when required. Healthy guidance equates to balanced advice, including making you aware of your mistakes, alerting you to possible pitfalls, as well as celebrating your wins. Their experience can be invaluable if they are already where you want to be. When you have people in your life that you aspire to (personally or professionally), they become your beacon and your inspiration as you grow. They are gold, therefore respect their wisdom whilst remaining true to your own journey.

Resilience
Building resilience is an important part of life. Every person will experience disappointment and knockbacks in life, some more than others. What defines each individual is how they use that experience. Some fall, some hide, some lose confidence, all of this is normal. The key component is remembering that these experiences that make you feel this way now, do not define you, they grow you.
This newfound wisdom prepares you for the future by placing you on high alert for next time and choosing another route towards your success.
Resilience enables you to discover your formula for success.

Remaining open to grow
Any unpredictability can be nerve wracking and create uncertainty. In times when this occurs, it is important to reflect, and utlilise creative thinking, past experience or draw from surrounding mentors to guide you through times when you feel stuck or vulnerable.
It is when unpredictable circumstances lock us down mentally, emotionally, or physically for long durations of time, that struggle, and frustration arise.
Seek solutions, plant new goals, and create a fresh perspective as you climb the staircase towards your dreams.
I wish you an amazing year ahead and remember to celebrate your growth as well as your wins!
